A new report from California’s state auditor says an online community college program that’s eaten up more than $100 million in taxpayer funds should be eliminated after graduating only 12 of its 904 students enrolled.
State Auditor Elaine Howle released the 74-page report Tuesday, showing Calbright College had fallen far behind in accomplishing benchmarks set since its inception in 2018.
The online only community college’s goal is to offer free education to the state’s lucrative careers in trades that often require certifications.
“Calbright must show that its actual success can match its potential benefit and that it is worth the significant investment of public funds that the State has made,” Howle said.

LAFAYETTE - A recent audit of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL Lafayette) revealed several concerning blunders in relation to the university s organizational procedures and financial record-keeping.
According to the Louisiana Legislative Auditor, for the second consecutive year, UL Lafayette failed to terminate access to the electronic administrative system in a timely manner for employees who no longer worked for the university.
The audit also revealed that the university did not have adequate controls in place to ensure returns of Title IV funds were accurately calculated and sent to the U.S. Department of Education.

More than six months after his defeat in the November election, former President Trump is still claiming victory, calling the election the big lie, despite several recounts and dozens of unsuccessful lawsuits that say otherwise.
Although every state has certified its results, the Republican-controlled state Senate in Arizona has undertaken a full hand recount and audit of the ballots and voting machines in Maricopa, the state s largest county, a move that has been frequently praised by the former president. President Biden won the county, a longtime Republican stronghold, by 45,109 votes, and he won the state by 10,457 votes. At the same time, Democrats also picked up a U.S. Senate seat from Arizona.
